A year of apprenticeship before the exam, then the hunting card
A candidate must have completed at least a year of mentored apprenticeship before sitting the Slovenian exam.
Article 61 entrusts the running of hunting examinations to the Slovenian Hunting Association; candidates sit them before examining boards appointed by the minister. The entry condition is demanding: candidates are hunting apprentices who, under a mentor's guidance, have completed at least one year of apprenticeship in a lovišče or in a special-purpose hunting ground, and who have attended the training course whose programme the Association, the Institute and educational institutions prepared together. The apprentice is entitled to a firearms document under weapons law. The examination has a practical and a theoretical part and is public; passing the practical part is a condition for taking the theoretical one. A candidate who fails at the first attempt may retake it twice more, with at least six months between attempts. The board issues a certificate of the pass. Article 62 then opens the right to the hunting card (lovska izkaznica) to anyone meeting the statutory conditions, including someone who belongs to no hunting society. The hunter must carry a valid card and show it on request to interior affairs officers, hunting wardens or the hunting inspectorate. The Association issues cards for its members; the manager of the hunting ground extends their validity each year.
