Opening 2026: big game on 7 September, small game on 5 October
Both openings fall on a Monday, subject to approval by the cantonal executive.
For 2026 the canton announces two openings: big-game hunting (Hochwildjagd) begins on Monday 7 September 2026 and small-game hunting (Niederwildjagd) on Monday 5 October 2026, provided the Standeskommission — the cantonal executive — gives its approval. That proviso is not boilerplate: the dates are set each year by a Standeskommission decision on hunting, which the canton publishes separately, as it does the decision on regulating ibex. Two further subjects accompany the season on the cantonal site: rescuing roe fawns before mowing, and the rules on drone flights in the Alpstein, for which a chargeable exceptional permit must be sought. Exact dates and the species list should be checked each year in the published decision, because they do not roll over automatically.
