Uri 2026: high hunt in two blocks, low hunt from 12 October
The high hunt normally starts on the first Monday in September, the low hunt on the second Monday in October.
Uri sets its openings by a simple rule, then publishes the exact dates each year. As a rule, big-game hunting starts on the first Monday in September and small-game hunting on the second Monday in October. For 2026 the high hunt falls in two blocks: 7 to 19 September 2026 for chamois, marmot and red deer, then 28 to 30 September 2026 for red deer alone. The low hunt runs from 12 October to 30 November 2026. The canton notes expressly that restrictions apply within each of these periods. The second September block is no accident: in February 2026 the canton announced that the September red deer hunt was being extended by three further days. Uri's dates are therefore read alongside that year's decisions, not from memory.
