Vadászjegy for residents, vadászati engedély for everyone else
A visiting hunter goes through the hunting authorisation, which needs a contract or invitation and EEA insurance.
Hungary keeps two documents clearly apart. The vadászjegy goes, on application, to someone with permanent residence in Hungary or Hungarian citizenship, aged at least eighteen, who has passed the hunting examination, is not subject to a withdrawal decision, and holds valid hunting liability insurance covering damage caused to others. From sixteen, the same conditions apply plus a police certificate attesting the requirements for the lawful use of a firearm. The vadászjegy authorises hunting throughout Hungary; it is issued by the Hunting Chamber and must be validated each hunting year. For everyone else — and this is the Swiss hunter's route — article 62 opens the vadászati engedély. It goes, on application, to an adult who does not meet the vadászjegy conditions, provided they are not subject to a withdrawal decision and hold: a paid-hunting contract or a guest-hunting invitation; an import permit for a hunting firearm or raptor, or the keeping permit required by the law of their place of residence; and valid hunting liability insurance issued by an insurer established in the European Economic Area, with a certified translation where the policy was issued abroad. The Chamber issues the authorisation once the contract or invitation and the insurance certificate are attached to the application. The authorisation allows hunting in every hunting area of the country.
