Kazakhstan: commercial hunting, sport hunting, and national hunting
The act distinguishes commercial from sport hunting; the latter includes national hunting with raptors and Kazakh dogs.
Kazakhstan's act on the protection, reproduction and use of the animal world divides hunting into two categories. Commercial hunting (промысловая охота) is the taking of huntable animal species for the purposes of business activity. Amateur or sport hunting (любительская, спортивная охота) is the taking of those same species to satisfy sporting and aesthetic needs and for personal consumption of what is taken. Within the second category the act names a practice particular to the country: national hunting (национальная охота) is the gunless taking of sport-hunting species using hunting birds of prey and dogs of Kazakh breeds. The act expressly treats the use of those auxiliaries as hunting. The territorial rule is simple: hunting takes place in the allocated hunting grounds, unless the competent authority provides otherwise. The reserve fund of hunting grounds designates, conversely, those grounds not allocated to any user of the animal world.
