Geneva: a special regime, with no private hunting
Geneva banned private hunting by popular vote in 1974; wildlife management is carried out by the State.
Geneva applies a special regime, distinct from the licence-based and lease-based systems practised elsewhere in Switzerland: private hunting has been banned there since a 1974 popular vote. The necessary interventions on wildlife are carried out by the State's game wardens, under the responsibility of the Office cantonal de l'agriculture et de la nature, which appears as the cantonal authority in the directory of the Conference of Heads of Environmental Protection Services (KVU). The canton therefore does not issue any individual hunting permit: Huntalis must neither sell, nor suggest the existence of, a Geneva permit or licence module. Any information intended for users in Geneva must remain centred on this particular regime and on the official channels of the État de Genève.
