A one-year traineeship — and recognition of the foreign document
A hunter is someone holding the Lithuanian hunter’s card or an analogous document issued abroad and recognised in Lithuania.
Article 2 of the act contains a definition that bears directly on a hunter coming from abroad: a hunter is a natural person holding a hunter's card issued in the Republic of Lithuania, or an analogous document issued in a foreign country and recognised in the Republic of Lithuania. For the Lithuanian card itself, article 14 is demanding. The right to hunt is granted and the card issued to Lithuanian citizens, foreigners permanently resident in Lithuania and stateless persons who meet three requirements: having turned eighteen; having completed the hunter training courses and a one-year traineeship under the programme set by the environment ministry — except for higher-education students whose curriculum included a hunting fundamentals course; and having passed the hunting examination under the procedure and programme set by the same ministry. The right is not granted, and the card not issued, to people with illnesses on a list approved by the health minister, or with physical impairments on that list, that prevent proper handling of a firearm; to people convicted of intentional crimes while the conviction is neither spent nor expunged; to people serving a sentence; and to those who have committed an administrative offence connected with breaching hunting or fishing rules or with the unlawful use of a firearm, within a given period.
