Four licence types, application by 10 April
The hunting year runs from 1 April to 31 March; licence applications are due by 10 April.
The canton offers four categories: high-hunt licences for chamois and red deer; low-hunt licences for roe deer, fox, badger and similar species; guest authorisations; and special authorisations, for example for predator hunting. The administrative calendar is as binding as the hunting one. The hunting year runs from 1 April to 31 March. Applications for high- and low-hunt licences must be filed by 10 April with the Amt für Raum und Wald, Kasernenstrasse 17a, 9102 Herisau. Guest authorisations follow a different rule: applications go to the hunting administrator four days before the intended hunting date. The administration also publishes its annual reports, which makes it possible to follow how the bag develops from season to season.
