The Graubünden licence: the cantonal exam is compulsory
Only the Graubünden aptitude exam opens the licence; exams from other cantons do not replace it.
Article 5 KJG lists the conditions for obtaining the licence. It goes to whoever turns 19 during the calendar year and is capable of judgement, can show they passed the Graubünden aptitude exam (bündnerische Eignungsprüfung), holds third-party liability insurance meeting federal requirements, and gives no ground for exclusion from hunting or refusal of the licence. The second condition is the binding one: the Graubünden exam is required, not any Swiss exam. Ibex hunting adds a seniority requirement — five years of the Graubünden Hochjagd before you may even apply. The guest card (Gästekarte, art. 5a) is the one route open to an outside hunter: it lets you join a Graubünden hunter for one day of the Hochjagd, from the third day of the hunt onward, provided you have passed a hunting exam recognised in Switzerland. Any game taken counts against the host's quota, and a hunter may draw no more than two cards.
