Neuchâtel: three cantonal texts and two annual decrees

The 1995 wildlife act, its implementing regulation and the 1996 hunting regulation, topped up each year by decree.

Neuchâtel's foundation rests on three texts: the wildlife act of 7 February 1995 (LFS), its implementing regulation of 27 November 1996 (RLFS) and the hunting regulation of the same date (RCh). Two decrees complete the picture and give it its annual rhythm: the decree on the practice of hunting during the current season, and the decree on granting a temporary hunting authorisation for guests. It is in the first that the hunting periods, days and hours are set out season by season — the service publishes them separately for the 2026-2027 season. The wildlife, forests and nature service (SFFN) handles the whole field: hunting, guest permits, hunting dog training, statistics. It also documents terrestrial and aquatic wildlife and the monitoring of large carnivores, wolf and lynx, in the canton.
