Uri: the office plans the hunt, the chancellery issues the licences
The hunting division implements the law and plans; issuing licences falls to the state chancellery’s administration.
In Uri two units share the file. The hunting division (Abteilung Jagd) of the Amt für Forst und Jagd is responsible for implementing hunting legislation and for planning and supervising the hunt. The administration division of the state chancellery, at the Rathaus in Altdorf, is responsible instead for issuing licences. That split has a practical consequence: the technical question and the administrative step do not go to the same counter — the document itself comes from the passport, licences and official publications office, Rathausplatz 1 in Altdorf. Registration for the hunt is annual and firm: for the 2026 hunt it ran to 7 August 2026, and the call for the 2027 hunt is expected in June 2027. Separately, the canton opens registration each year for the ibex reduction cull — the 2026 round closed on 27 March 2026, the next is expected in early March 2027.
