The Zug licence: twenty years old, recognised exam
Four things must be proved, among them being 20 and offering assurance of safe firearm handling.
Paragraph 4 of the Zug act reserves the licence for applicants who prove four things: that they have turned twenty and are not under guardianship, that they have passed a recognised hunting exam, that they offer assurance of safe firearm handling and safe hunting, and that they hold third-party liability insurance meeting federal requirements. Twenty, not eighteen: Zug sets a stricter age limit here than most neighbouring cantons. Nor is the third condition a formality, since it rests on a judgement rather than on a certificate. Issuing and withdrawing the licence falls to the Directorate of the Interior. Paragraph 5 lists the cases in which the licence must be refused, notably where the applicant has been finally convicted of an intentional offence against life or limb, of a prohibited act towards animals, or of criminal damage.
