Feral pigeon: federal hunting status
The feral pigeon may be hunted year-round under the federal Hunting Act; the practical conditions remain cantonal.
The feral pigeon (Columba livia f. domestica) appears in Article 5(3)(b) of the Federal Act of 20 June 1986 on Hunting and the Protection of Wild Mammals and Birds (Hunting Act, SR 922.0) among the species that may be hunted all year round: federal law sets no closed season for it. Cantons retain the power to shorten the list of huntable species on their territory (Art. 5(4)). The practical conditions — permit required, permitted means, reporting duties — follow the cantonal rules in force, to be checked with the cantonal hunting authority.
