Cyprus: the Cyprus mouflon counts as protected wild fauna
The 2003 act defines wild fauna as game, wild birds, the fox and the agrino.
Cyprus's act 152(I)/2003 on the protection and management of wild birds and game opens with its definitions. Wild fauna means game, wild birds, the fox and the agrino — the species Ovis orientalis ophion, the Cyprus mouflon. A wild bird is any bird that lives naturally in a wild state, including game birds. The act defines the means just as precisely. A hunting weapon is a long, shouldered firearm with a smooth bore, either single-barrelled holding only one cartridge in the chamber, or double-barrelled holding only one cartridge in each chamber, or an air weapon. The latter is defined as a weapon whose barrel has a smooth or rifled internal surface, operates on compressed air and fires a projectile of metal, plastic or other material. The Council of Ministers may, by order published in the Official Gazette, prohibit — in addition to any close season — the shooting, killing, pursuit, capture, sale or offering for sale of any species of wild fauna during a period fixed in the order; breaching such an order is an offence.
