Shorter periods than federal law allows
The ordinance narrows hunting times for six species and permits drive hunts only from 1 October to 15 December.
The cantonal hunting ordinance (SRL no. 725a) narrows, for six categories of game, the periods federal law would allow. Roebuck and yearling doe may be hunted only with the bullet, from a stand or by stalking, from 1 May to 30 September; from 1 October to 15 December bullet and shot are both allowed. The adult doe follows the same pattern, bullet only from 1 to 30 September. Roe fawn is open from 1 October to 15 December, brown hare from 1 November to 15 December, chamois from 1 September to 15 December, and red deer from 1 August to 15 December. Otherwise the federally fixed protection and hunting times apply. Drive hunts may only be held from 1 October to 15 December. The agriculture and forest office may nevertheless allow them before 1 October and after 15 December, outside the federal protection periods, to fulfil the culling plan or to regulate wild boar numbers. Only two cases escape the ban on night hunting: the winter stand hunt for predators and the stand hunt for wild boar.
