Zug: state regale and licence hunting
Hunting on Zug territory is a state regale, and it is practised under the licence system.
The Zug hunting act (Jagdgesetz, BGS 932.1) of 25 October 1990 states its two structural rules in two paragraphs. Paragraph 2: hunting on the territory of the canton of Zug is a state regale. Paragraph 3: hunting is practised under the licence system. Zug is therefore a licence canton in the middle of a largely leasehold central Switzerland: the right to hunt attaches to the person and to the licence they obtain, not to membership of a leaseholding society. The act pursues the four usual aims of Swiss hunting law: conserving species diversity and the habitats of native and migratory wild mammals and birds, protecting threatened species, limiting damage to forest and farm crops to a bearable level, and ensuring appropriate use of wildlife populations through hunting. Implementation lies with the Amt für Wald und Wild in the Directorate of the Interior.
